Palazzo Reale Milan

The Royal Palace of Milan, for centuries the seat of the government of the city of Milan, is today an important cultural center , home to exhibitions.

Originally designed with a system of two yards, then partially demolished to make room for the cathedral , the palace is located to the right of the facade of the cathedral in the opposite position with respect to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The facade of the building , following the line of the ancient courtyard , forms a recessed from the cathedral square , called the Piazzetta Reale .

Of particular importance is the Hall of the Caryatids on the main floor of the building, which occupies the site of the old theater burned in 1776 and is the most significant environmental survived, though badly damaged , the heavy Anglo-American bombing of 1943 , against caused by incendiary and violent air movement was followed by a state of disrepair that lasted for more than two years , a fact that caused much more serious damage to the building , with the loss of much of the neoclassical interiors .
