Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpiece The Last Supper is surely one of the most famous paintings by the Italian Maestro and with no doubt the most mysterious, controversial and discussed all over the world. Dating 1494-1498, it was commissioned by the Duke of Milan Ludovico il Moro to cover the wall of the Santa Maria delle Grazie refectory in Milan. That's why this room is also commonly referred to as the Cenecolo Vinciano (Vinci's Refectory).
This fresco was under restoration for more than 20 years (1978-1999), one of the most difficult and complicated, due to damages and the materials used by Leonardo, which caused risks to loose this masterpiece forever.
The mistery that has always surrounded The Last Supper and the characters represented in it, paved the way for uncountable speculations, the most known nowadays is maybe novelist Dan Brown's in his "The Da Vinci Code".
